1. Liberty State Park Boat Ramp

West Shore, Jersey City, N. J.

Off Exit 14B on the New Jersey Turnpike. One of the only two public boat ramps on the Jersey side of the Hudson River and itís the best. The ramp is located at the south end of the Liberty State Park complex.

The ramp is doublewide with a fixed dock down the middle. The ramp also features a 56-foot floating dock at the south end of the ramp for tying up your boat. It is a concrete ramp in a sheltered cove, out of the main currents, winds, and wakes of the Hudson River. The ramp is wide open for maneuvering and has parking for well over 100 cars with trailers. There is no overnight parking permitted. The hours of operation are from 6 am to 10 pm from the 1st of April to October 31st. Lights are in the parking area and services are available in the main park area.

This is one of the favorite launching sites for HRFA members, and you will always see one of our boats using this facility. Stay in the marked channels at low tide. Rocks are very close to the south side of the channel on the way out to the Statue. At low tide you will go aground if you are outside the green buoys! Stay in the channel!!! There is no problem at low tide in the cove or in the channel.

Fees...Season permits $106.00 and daily passes are $9.75 with no residence restrictions.

For further info contact the Liberty State Park Offices at 201-915-3401

2. Hazzard's Launch Ramp

West Shore  Inside the Palisades Interstate Park, Fort Lee, N. J.

Inside the Palisades Interstate Park at the Ross Dock Picnic Area. Located under the George Washington Bridge. Go south on Hudson Terrace from the G.W. Bridge and follow Henry Hudson Drive to the park entrance on your left. Make a right at your first circle, go down the hill and stick to your right.

The ramp was rebuilt in 1999 and is a whole lot better than the old one. The ramp features a doublewide two boat-launching ramp with an 80-foot floating dock down the center. Itís a concrete ramp with parking for 50 cars with trailers. The lights from the bridge illuminate the entire ramp in the evenings.

Hours of operation are from 8 am till dusk from the 1st week in April till the last weekend in October. There is no overnight parking and no services at this facility. Restrooms are available at the north section of the park. The ramp area is restricted to cars and trucks with trailers only. Summonses are issued for cars in the area without trailers.

The ramp has a 24-ft. maximum length for boats. Boats must be registered and no inflatables may be launched. Boats landing after dark must use the Palisades Avenue exit.

This ramp is in the main current of the river and wakes, currents and wind must be dealt with. A new breakwater has been constructed on the south edge of the new ramp to help this situation. Larger boats must use the north side of the ramp as this break wall is too close to the floating dock. Winds and an incoming current make it risky navigation on the south side for larger boats.

Fees...Daily permits are $10.00. No residency restrictions. Seasonal passes will be issued once the construction is completed. No seasonal fee is set at this time. For further information call the Palisades Interstate Park at 201-768-1360.

This is a private enterprise with a launch ramp and full marina services. They offer fishing and hunting licenses, live bait, tackle, ice soda, snack bar and shipís store. The launch ramp is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Fees are $10.00 in and out and seasonal passes are available. Special passes for the striper fishing season are offered. Certified weigh in station and scales are available for that trophy catch. The ramp is a single wide concrete and you can dry store your boat on the property and launch when you want. Call Sharon at 914-339-3060 for further information. This place was built for fishermen and it does get busy during the spring striper run.

We Need You-- The Coast Guard Auxiliary is called upon to provide essential services to the Coast Guard as they focus more heavily on their military missions.  We need all the help we can get.  You needn't own a boat or be an experienced boater, since our missions are wide-ranging.  For information about Auxiliary missions and the Auxiliary in general, go to our Join the Auxiliary web page.  You will find there a form through which you can ask that a local Auxiliarist make contact with you to explore the ways in which you can assist Team Coast Guard.
