Vision
The Coast Guard Auxiliary - rising to meet America's changing maritime safety and security challenges, while concurrently bringing to the American public an array of homeland security, recreational boating and marine safety programs.
Mission
The overarching mission of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary is to contribute to the safety and security of our citizens, ports, waterways and coastal regions. We will balance our missions of Recreational Boating Safety and Coast Guard Support with Maritime Homeland Security and other challenges that emerge as a result of our growing understanding of changes required in the post-9/11 era.![]()
National Commodore’s Watchwords for 2004-2006
Ready- focusing on the roles and missions for which we have been given the authority to fulfill. We are ready to serve the country in a comprehensive manner, as trained professionals, anticipating opportunities, continuously developing expertise, and providing resources when and where they are needed.
Responsive- speaks to our ability to respond, to adapt and to embrace change, opportunities and to practice intelligent opportunism as individuals, but more importantly, organizationally. Our leaders will be thoughtful and strategic, our organization will be lean and our financial infrastructure will be strong in today’s and the future’s ever changing environment.
Resolute- speaks to our value system, our commitment to our nation, the Coast Guard, the Auxiliary and the member. We value members with dedication to our mission regardless of their level of contribution, members with unique skills who want to make a difference through service. We value our commitment to the Coast Guard and the boating public, resolute and steadfast in meeting our responsibilities and commitments.![]()
Strategic Imperatives
•Provide greater focus on those unique roles and missions for which the Congress, the Department of Homeland Security and the Coast Guard grant us the authority to fulfill.
•Serve the country and its citizens, as individuals or teams, by:
- Participating in Auxiliary programs and activities,
- Augmenting the Coast Guard and the Department of Homeland Security, and
- Working with the states, partner agencies and boating organizations, as well as with the public.
• Provide a capable, reliable and sustainable workforce to fulfill any mission we agree to undertake.
•Value the contribution of all members, regardless of their level or type of participation.
•
Seek members and leaders who have the interests, skills, capabilities and dedication to serve in any role, and in any manner, that contributes to our goals and is consistent with our Auxiliary traditions and our values of Honor, Respect and Devotion to Duty.![]()
•Auxiliary leadership will support our mission by:
- articulating our vision to the membership,
- providing strategic and tactical leadership,
- obtaining resources critical to our continued success,
- recognizing and seizing valued opportunities to execute national and local initiatives, and
- always remaining responsible for creditable results.
•Restructure and realign our organization to reflect changes in the Coast Guard, the Department of Homeland Security and the requirements of our emerging roles and missions.
•Develop a sustainable operating business plan that addresses the financial and other resource realities of our traditional and emerging roles, as well as the role and contributions of CGAuxA, Inc. to the mission effectiveness of the Coast Guard Auxiliary.
We Need You-- The Coast Guard Auxiliary is called upon to provide essential services to the Coast Guard as they focus more heavily on their military missions. We need all the help we can get.
